I met Ravya Taghavi of Pixel and Type at Smith College while volunteering for the University’s Draper Business Plan Competition ‘Shark Tank’ coaching sessions. Ravya is an entrepreneur who has worked with startups, universities, and financial professionals. She even helped to develop the Center for Women and Financial Independence at Smith College, where the Draper Competition was born. We discussed the importance of supporting student entrepreneurs, the benefits of Lean LaunchPad, and her work helping financial advisors market and grow their practices.

I first met Allie Felix at the 2013 Grinspoon Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards. She was an exhibitor during the cocktail hour. What stuck out to me about Allie was that she had schwag, ha. Seriously, she looked to be about the most put together out of all the students in attendance, and was super excited to share her venture Keep Your Balance. If you have the pleasure of speaking with Allie, I’m confident you’ll come to same conclusion I did; she’s just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. She’s got drive, determination, and is one of the most focused entrepreneurial students I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. We recently reconnected at Smith College when I was a guest “Shark” helping students prepare for the Draper Business Plan Competition. She was gracious enough to come on The Engine and share her experiences in building Keep Your Balance. Allie discusses her ups, downs, and insights on how to make an impactful pitch. If you’re going to be going in front of investors to pitch your venture, you’ll want to listen to her interview.
